According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cardiovascular disease ranks as the number one cause of death in the United States, resulting in approximately 2,200 deaths each day. That means that 1 in every 3 deaths in the US is caused by heart disease or stroke. These stats are unfortunate, especially since so many of these deaths are preventable.

Data published by the CDC in September 2013 show that while nearly 1 in every 3 deaths (this number has held steady since 2013) in the US was caused by cardiovascular disease, 200,000 of those deaths were entirely preventable. 6 in 10 preventable deaths from heart disease or stroke occur in people under the age of 65.

While we’d never try to tell you that any one food, drink, substance, or practice is a miracle cure (and beware of anyone who tries to tell you otherwise), incorporating Matcha into your daily routine can certainly help you lower your risk of cardiovascular disease. It is a combination of diet, exercise, and other lifestyle changes that can decrease your risk of heart disease and stroke.

As we discussed in our last blog post, Matcha can help prevent and fight heart disease. Matcha contains naturally-occurring chemicals called catechins that have been proven beneficial in the fight against and prevention of heart disease. These catechins have been shown to play a role in preventing atherosclerosis, cardiac hypertrophy, cardiomyopathy, endothelial dysfunction, hypertension, ischemic heart diseases, and congestive heart failure. The catechins present in Matcha (and green tea in general) also possess anti-inflammatory properties that can help regulate blood pressure and lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides (blood fats), both of which are associated with death from heart disease and stroke.
