As 2020 is fast approaching, many people are already preparing to make New Year’s resolutions to improve their health and wellness. But how many will actually stick to these resolutions? Making a resolution is only valuable if it is realistic for the person making it. So, if leading a healthier lifestyle and taking better care of yourself are among your goals for this coming year, start with something both easy and enjoyable that really can make a difference.
The health benefits of Matcha are numerous; from increasing metabolism and mental alertness, to lowering cholesterol, combating cardiovascular diseases, and removing toxins from the body, everyone can find a good reason to get Matchafied. How can incorporating Matcha into your daily routine help you keep that health-conscious New Year’s resolution?
Matcha can increase mental alertness. One study, cited in the U.S. National Library of Medicine, concluded that caffeine and an amino acid known as L-theanine (both found in Matcha) “have clear beneficial effects on sustained attention, memory, and suppression of distraction.”
Flavonoids (naturally-occurring chemicals found in plants) known as catechins have proven beneficial in the fight against and prevention of heart disease. Studies suggest that the catechins found in green tea (Matcha included) have the ability to prevent atherosclerosis, hypertension, endothelial dysfunction, ischemic heart diseases, cardiomyopathy, cardiac hypertrophy and congestive heart failure. These same studies went on to suggest that these catechins possess anti-inflammatory properties and can help to regulate blood pressure. Additional studies cited by Harvard Medical School show green tea may lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, which are associated with death from heart disease and stroke. Matcha is high in antioxidants. An overabundance of free radicals in the body (caused by smoking, medication, radiation, and pollution) can lead to chronic illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and autoimmune diseases, among others. The body uses antioxidants—either naturally produced or supplemented through foods such as Matcha—to fight the ill effects of these free radicals.
Simple to prepare and versatile, 1 tsp. of Matcha in your daily routine is all it takes to start reaping these benefits. You can drink it as a hot or cold beverage, or add it to other foods and beverages (coconut water, orange juice, smoothies, yogurt, etc.). Matcha is so versatile, you’re only limited by your imagination! You can use Culinary Matcha to incorporate Matcha into your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even your baking. Matcha Chlorella increases the health benefits with the addition of chlorella, a green, single-celled alga. Chlorella is high in vitamins, macro-minerals, essential fatty acids, and protein, and is a great way to detox. Detoxing is not only healthy, it can also be tasty with the right recipe!
Whether you’re currently fighting health issues, or just want to maintain your already good health, adding Matcha to your life is a simple first step in the right direction. So, when the ball drops this New Year’s Eve, raise a Matcha shot high and toast to a new year, new you!
